When the Trump-Vance administration moved fast to cause harm, Democracy 2025 was ready – even as major institutions hesitated. Built for this moment, we’ve grown into the largest and most effective coordinated legal effort in modern U.S. history, uniting lawyers, advocates, organizers, researchers, and strategists across every front.

Democracy 2025 serves as the central hub for strategy, coordination, and thought leadership in the fight for democracy.
We unite lawyers, advocates, organizers, researchers, and strategists to defend people and democracy. We strengthen our partners and our collective work through litigation, communications, policy, organizing support, and more.
Since the start of the
Trump-Vance administration:
- Over 50% of lawsuits challenging the Trump-Vance administration's actions have involved Democracy 2025 partners.
- The effort delivered 405 litigation wins in 2025—the majority of these secured by Democracy 2025 partner organizations.

Who are Democracy 2025 members?
Democracy 2025 began as a project by Democracy Forward to research and plan legal responses to threats to our democracy. Since then, that effort has grown to include more than 700 organizations representing millions of people working across a wide range of focus areas and tactical specialties. We have expanded our focus to center litigation and legal advocacy, but also include broader forms of advocacy, such as communications and messaging, community organizing, and more.
How are you funded?
The work of Democracy 2025 is powered by staff at individual organizations, including Democracy Forward. We encourage you to explore coalition members’ websites for more information about specific organizations.
Would this effort exist regardless of which presidential administration is in power?
Yes. Democracy 2025 is a strategic hub to counter anti-democratic extremism wherever it appears, whether that is in the White House, in the states, the courts, or anywhere else. Right now, we are focused on the biggest threat: the Trump-Vance administration. But as the threats shift, we will shift to meet the moment.
What is the difference between Democracy 2025 and Democracy Forward?
